Zukas Hilltop Barn Wedding >
Dawn + Dan met when they sat next to each other in class as chemical engineering majors at UMass. Grad school was special to them for that reason so last year we had their engagement session in the library where they used to study.
Their chemical engineering background made its way into their wedding in the form of champagne flutes with vasopressin and oxytocin, the chemicals associated with love and bonding, with their molecular diagrams etched into them.
Dawn + Dan’s wedding day had other unique touches as well. As avid birdwatchers, many birds were represented in their details, and we kept our eyes out for different species to photograph during the day.
Another big part of the day were the lawn games they had for their guests. Since Zukas has a big field adjacent to their tent, there was plenty of room to play. They had kites and croquet, giant pick up sticks, giant Kerplunk, giant Yahtzee, giant Jenga, and giant Connect Four. As much as guests danced inside the tent there were just as many who enjoyed the beautiful weather and socialized outdoors.
Earlier on their wedding day Dawn got ready in Zukas’ spacious bridal suite before meeting up with Dan for their first look. We opted to incorporate nature into their portraits, so the fields and tree line made for beautiful backdrops during that part of the day.
At the end of the day we had the opportunity to make a couple of portraits including utilizing the giant Connect Four board, after which Dawn + Dan remained in the field by themselves (and their photographers) and had some fun moments alone. After impromptu dancing atop a stone wall they had their final dance in the field, just the two of them, while family and friends looked on from the tent further up the hill.
