Stepping into the Smith College Botanic Garden greenhouse, located in Northampton, MA, I felt an immediate sense of excitement. The venue was hosting its annual bulb show, a spectacle that Nanda and Chad, the couple whose engagement session I had the pleasure of photographing that day, were eager to explore. The greenhouse, alive with a myriad of colorful flowers, created an enchanting and vibrant atmosphere. It was, without a doubt, a unique and special location for their session.
Nanda and Chad's enthusiasm was infectious. Every corner of the bulb show held a new surprise, a new backdrop for their portraits. The challenge lay in the abundance of opportunities. Since Nanda and Chad are members, we gained entry to the bulb show an hour before the general public was allowed in. It proved to be a tight space, so while there were a handful of other members there, no one was in anyone else's way.
Navigating the vast greenhouse, we spent a bit over an hour moving from one location to another, capturing the couple's joy and love amidst the beautiful flora. Whether it was under a canopy of colorful flowers, beside a quaint garden pond complete with a frog that called it home, or in front of a lush, leafy backdrop, each photograph tells a unique story. And as we moved, the greenhouse seemed to come alive, as if it was part of the session itself.
Nanda and Chad's engagement session in the Smith College Botanic Garden greenhouse was a testament to their joy and love. Coupled with the vibrancy and beauty of the bulb show, it resulted in a collection of photographs that tell a story of love, joy, and a session that they, and I, will remember fondly. The greenhouse, with its kaleidoscope of colors and fragrances, was more than just a venue for a photoshoot. It was a character in their story I was privileged to tell.
