Backyard Wedding >
Emily and Johann’s wedding was one I’ll remember for some time. Hosted in Emily’s parent’s backyard, on a farm that has been in the family for four generations, their intimate ceremony was held under an enormous tree with only ten guests in attendance, few of which were dry-eyed by the end.
The love between Emily and Johann and their daughter Abigail was a joy to photograph. After family photos and before guests arrived, taking a break from putting the finishing touches on the tables and decor, they all danced in a field in front of the barn and just enjoyed the moment.
Their details were many, from flowers on the tables and on the posts of the tent where guests would sit out of the sun, to croquet and horseshoes, to a collection of framed photos memorializing family no longer with them. Family legend has it that Emily’s grandmother once hung a rosary from a clothesline which warded off a storm, and that tradition has been passed down so that all family gatherings feature a rosary hung from a clothesline to bring nice weather.
And there were basset hound puppies everywhere.
I had help photographing Emily and Johann’s wedding from Kathleen Miller.
Here are some photos from the day…
