Pilgrim Monument Provincetown Wedding >
Meghan + Russell celebrated their wedding at the iconic Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
We began at their rented cottage in Provincetown where they both got ready for the day ahead, though in separate parts of the house. Having arrived in Provincetown a day early I had the opportunity to scope out the location they’d chosen for their first look at Race Point Beach. For photographic purposes I suggested a move away from the beach that was busy with tourists to a more private location in the dunes on the other side of the parking lot. When they said my favorite phrase “We trust you, Seth”, that set the template for the rest of the day.
We now had a nice, private location for their first look, and they planned for a full hour for portraits before we had to head off to the ceremony. Photographing Meghan + Russell in the dunes was magical. I hadn’t had the opportunity to make portraits in a location like that before, and while we were only around the corner from civilization it was completely private. With the sand and tall grasses it was like being in a playground of photographic opportunities. The clock was ticking, though, so after a quick hour of portraits we headed to Pilgrim Monument so Meghan + Russell could be married.
Upon arriving their guests were handed a program and a nicely printed card explaining they were having an unplugged ceremony, asking attendees to keep their cameras and phones away, leaving the photography to me and my team. It was nice to see family and friends engaged with the ceremony rather than viewing it through a little screen. I know Meghan + Russell appreciated it, as well.
After their ceremony we took a few family photos with Provincetown in the background, then made some creative portraits of them while the sun was setting. After the cocktail hour they were introduced into the reception and had their first dance followed by a toast by Meghan’s father that was both funny and emotional.
Well after the sun had set and Pilgrim Monument was lit up, we went outside for a few nighttime portraits. Once back in the tent Meghan + Russell, along with their friends, danced for whatever time remained. It was a truly magical day.
